Alstom CBTC range: World leading high-capacity signalling

Metropolis_of_Sydney_Australia.jpg

Urbalis CBTC range at a glance

  • Shorter headways between trains: maximise your network capacity and throughput
  • Lower life-cycle costs
  • Fit for migration
  • Zero service disruption

The need for mass transit systems with expanded capacity is steadily increasing; more people need to arrive on time, without compromising on reliability or safety. For any city preparing to meet this future demand, Alstom’s scalable communications-based train control solutions (CBTC) supports the full range of automatic train control technologies.

Alstom comprehensive CBTC portfolio

Alstom is a strong leader in the mass transit market and a clear number one on the communications-based train control (CBTC) market. Our CBTC range consisting of Urbalis™ and Cityflo™ are suitable for conventional and intelligent solutions and for any complexity, brown- or green-field system, and at all grades of automation.

We have over 30 years’ expertise in radio CBTC and are currently chosen for 160 CBTC metro lines and over 90 lines in operation worldwide we safely carry millions of passengers daily.

We are at the forefront of the latest innovation utilising enhanced intelligence on-board and train-to-train communication to reduce wayside and enable increased operational flexibility

Trouble-free installation for capacity and cost efficiency

Proven CBTC technology supports optimisation and upgrades with zero service disruption, providing a new dimension in overlay capability. Shorter headways between trains means that more trains can be deployed, resulting in an average 30% higher capacity, whether on manned services or unattended train operation (UTO).

These systems can be deployed quickly, allowing some of the world’s largest cities to meet their transportation needs – rapidly and reliably. This was the objective when doubling capacity on the existing line in Madrid or easing congestion in Delhi by offering alternative routes across the city.  Additionally, with the system making greater use of energy saving strategies, consumption can be reduced by up to 30%.

Simplifying signalling

Urbalis Fluence (World-first implementation for Métropole Européenne de Lille)

Whereas Urbalis 400 is adopted by networks requiring standard interlocking systems, Urbalis Fluence takes the CBTC experience a step further by merging interlocking functions into a train-centric architecture. Radio contact between trains enables gaps to be shortened, resulting in even lower headway and 24-hour operational availability.

Acknowledged expertise in deployment

From Mexico to Italy and Singapore to Canada, clients all over the world testify to Alstom’s project management capabilities in conducting the installation and migration process. Building on valuable return on experience from previous projects, we are today a preferred partner to many transport authorities wishing to revamp and increase the capacities of their urban rail networks.
